Prolific author and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates wraps his Marvel career (for now) with the ending of his runs on BLACK PANTHER and CAPTAIN AMERICA. Cap comes later in June with issue #30, but this week brings an end to his epic Black Panther run. Coates began the book with a new #1 way back in the far off time of 2016. The title has undergone renumbering and relaunching since then, which will make following the numbers confusing, so probably best to stick with the trades. Since the latest relaunch in 2018, Coates took T’Challa to the stars in a galactic Wakandan empire. Now everything’s coming back home as T’Challa prepares for a space battle to protect the Wakanda of Earth.
Coates’s run coincided with a Hollywood film with phenomenal success, but the scope and character work in the comics are likewise impressive. After Coates finishes up his two ongoing Marvel books, we’ll next look forward to his writing on a SUPERMAN movie for Warner Bros with J.J. Abrams producing. Coates shows here that he can do big sci-fi action. Here’s hoping WB helps him deliver it to the big screen.

THE FINAL ISSUE OF TA-NEHISI COATES’ LANDMARK RUN! It’s the end of an era for the Black Panther as renowned writer Ta-Nehisi Coates concludes his Wakandan epic! Over four years, Coates has taken the Black Panther to hell and back and expanded Wakanda into the distant stars. Now, in his final issue, he brings T’Challa full circle, back to the home he left behind… and the crown he has never fully accepted. This is the story of a king who sought to be a hero, a hero who was reduced to a slave, a slave who advanced into legend…and the man who has struggled to hold up an empire in his bare hands. The journey will conclude, but the legend remains. Don’t miss the close of a historic epoch in comic history!
