The one-season wonder that is FIREFLY keeps chugging along. After getting canned at Fox and a movie with less than stellar box office returns, the space western has maintained an audience in comic form. Boom! Studios has taken over the Whedonverse over the last couple of years, also breathing new life into BUFFY and ANGEL with new reboots starting back at the beginning. FIREFLY: BRAND NEW VERSE takes a different approach, jumping to the future with the daughter of Wash (too soon!) and Zo. While the early description mentions familiar faces, we don’t know how many and how often of the fan favorite characters of the original series will be returning. Luckily, the great thing about comics is they don’t have to work around actors’ schedules and salaries.
If you’re hesitant about more Whedon stuff as he gets raked through the news with increasing allegations of inappropriate behavior, that’s fair. Whedon’s not the actual writer here, but there’s an obvious link, so your mileage may vary.
