The Ring was one of those groundbreaking horror films that spurred a sub-genre of that grabbed hold of fans for nearly ten years. The original film was Japanese, but it was remade in Korea, and here in the United States with Naomi Watts. The American film, while sub par to the original was still one of the better domestic horror films of the sub-genre. Now Paramount Pictures is bringing the f4ranchise back with upcoming Rings.
The synopsis from Paramount:
A new chapter in the beloved RING horror franchise. A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…
The film is led by a first time studio director and the most popular name in the cast list is Johnny Galecki from The Big Bang Theory so as popular as the franchise once was Paramount isn’t throwing a lot of money at this one. That however has no impact on the quality of the film. It could still be great. We will see soon enough.
