AMC is throwing another big summer marathon in select theaters! They’ve done this before with Marvel movies and Star Wars, now it’s time for Trek to get a turn! On July 20th (two days prior to the wide release of Star Trek: Beyond) starting at 4:30 AMC will screen all three films in the new Star Trek trilogy back to back in IMAX. This might be a tough sell considering the poor reception by hardcore and mainstream fans alike of Into Darkness and even the first film has lost its luster a little with hardcore fans. This writer has been known to call JJ Abrams first installment in the new franchise Star Wars lite! Truthfully the first film does have good bones though. While Justin Linn, the director of films such as The Fast and the Furious may not seem to be an obvious choice for saving the franchise that may be what makes him the right choice. It does help that Simon Pegg is repping the fans as a co-writer on the new film.
At any rate you can see the film furst in IMAX and get some collectables such as a Star Trek patch and lanyard by sitting through the maraton at select AMC theaters! See the list of participating locations here.
