At Disney‘s annual all things Disney convention D23 James Cameron was on hand to reveal a new area of the Animal Kingdom park that will be dedicated to Avatar! Cameron revealed what to expect in the new attraction including models and rides. IGN has a nice image gallery of the sample models and location dioramas that Disney had on display to tease attendees! The approach to Pandora – The World of Tomorrow is a very story driven affair, a design that’s common in the Universal theme parks. Cameron says the idea is that when you enter the area you are on Pandora after the war is over. Ships are crashed on the planet and rusting and humans are now being welcomed on the planet. The ride that will be at the center of the whole experience will be Avatar: Flight of Passage (odd name actually). The ride will simulate an aerial tour of Pandora on the back of a banshee. Cameron says “So advanced that you feel you’re flying. You literally feel like you’re flying. I know you’ve heard that with other rides before, but this is on whole other level.”
When Cameron says it, we are inclined to believe it. No opening date yet. Hit the IGN link above to see their pics of the Disney display.
