Usually it’s pretty exciting to see who is getting nominated and fun to complain about why this band or that one still isn’t in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame already. This year’s crop of Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame noms is well in a word boring. There is one name that should have been batted around years ago and that name is Stevie Ray Vaughn. So, they should just let him in and be done with it. The rest of the nominees are Nine Inch Nails, Green Day, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, War, Kraftwerk, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, N.W.A, The Smiths, Lou Reed (solo work), Sting (solo work),Chic, The Marvelettes, The Spinners, and Bill Withers. Green Day and Nine Inch Nails just barely hit the twenty-five year minimum to be voted on.
So the votes for these nominees are just as mysterious as those for the Oscars. Votes are basically cast by “industry insiders”. For the third year in a row however fans can go to rollingstone.com and cast votes where the top five picks will be considered the fans vote on the ballot. While some of these groups definitely deserve to be in the Hall of Fame the offerings just seem a little over uninspiring.
