On the 12th day of Christmas my true love gave to me an apocalypse and a prophecy. There are all sorts of questions about the end of the world floating around. When will it happen? Where will it begin? Will it be anything like the bibles scripture? From these questions many have formed their own theories or conspiracies, most of which have been turned into movies. One film in particular, approaches the end of day’s topic from a holiday standpoint.
12 Disasters, is a movie about the end of the world as predicted by the ancient Mayans. Only this has been seen for years and even sung about in the Christmas Holiday song, The Twelve Days of Christmas. There are twelve apocalyptic events occurring in a mountain town known as Calvary and it is up to an 18-year old girl and her dad to find the five ancient Mayan rings to stop the end of the world. Several obstacles block them though, both those of the prophecy and their fellow townspeople. Merry Christmas watch out for flying icicles and decorative lights!
The video is shown in a widescreen anamorphic presentation 1.78:1 on a standard DVD disc. It is in full color and is very clear. Special effects were not the best but they were also not the worst. They were very comedic and entertaining, and done descent for a syfy movie.
Sound was Dolby digital 5.1 and was done really well. I actually think the sound was better than the visual components. I found it entertaining to hear the shatter of giant icicles as they hit the ground and impaled the bodies of some town’s people… yes you can hear that!
THE PACKAGING AND EXTRA FEATURES
The packaging of this movie is actually what attracted me to the film originally. The visual cover art is appealing as well as the actual case comes with a cover sleeve. As far as extra features, the movie comes in English and Spanish subtitles.
This is a typical syfy end of day’s movie. I went into it with low expectations and it was better than expected. A lot of it had to do with the characters and story line, not to mention I have seen some of the starring actors in other movies and television shows and I am a fan of their work. They can actually act. Although lacking in the budget and special effects, this storyline was well thought out and humorously entertaining. So on the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me, a suggestion that this is a movie to see.
