Editor’s Note: In 2011 we’re going more multimedia with video and audio! We’re excited to begin this new initiative with Alan and a special guest doing a video review for this family film featuring Jim Carey and a bunch of penguins! Let us know what you think!

The Movie

9.5/10

The Video

Blu-Ray: Dolby Digital Widescreen 1.85:1

I am really starting to like blu-ray and its video presentation. Especially with movies that are heavy on digital effects. The video is what youd expect from a modern film with crisp color and realistic skin tones. The HD resolution can reveal some flaws in the CGI but hey this is a kid’s movie!.

10/10

The Audio

DVD: Dolby Digital 5.1
Blu-Ray: Dolby Digital 5.1 DTS-HD

It sounds good. Everything is clear and there is never any distortion of sound. The surround gets minimal use but what is there sounds great.

8/10

The Packaging and Special Features

This is a Blu-Ray / DVD combo pack with a digital copy included. It comes pretty standard in packaging. The special features are only included on the blu-ray disc.

As far as special features Mr. Popper’s Penguins does a pretty good job of delivering. Along with the animated short Nimrod & Stinky’s Antarctic Adventure (which we talk about in the video review) we also get the standard audio commentary, gag reel and deleted scenes. Also, the featurettes Penguin Pandemonium and The Legacy of Mr. Popper’s Penguins are included. Other than only being included on the blu-ray I’d say this is a pretty good collection on extras for this release.

Overall (Not an Average) 9/10

I really enjoyed this movie. It is definitely for kids but it is entertaining for adults as well. The penguins are funny and Jim Carrey is as good as ever. Watch it with your family.
